This program can be used in conjunction with an infrared remote. Here's how:
Things you'll need
An infrared receiver. I got a pcmcia one from HSC, paid 12 bucks for it.

A freeware program call WINLirc.
And the HD Controller program
The system.
The remote sends signals to the receiver, which WINLirc interprets into
keystroke commands and sends to the HD controller program. Simple right? Not
exactly...
The receiver.
It's best to get one that's not an IRda. Otherwise, windows sets it up as an
internet connection, and it's tough changing it to a serial port.
Installation of the ibm receiver above is as follows, other types should be
similar:
-First go to control panel-system and see which com ports are currently
installed.
-Plug in the pcmcia card, windows will start the new hardware wizard.
-Pick the option to select the driver from a list. Pick Ports (Com and LPT),
[Standard Port Types], and Communications Port, then next.
-Windows will list the I/O Ports and IRQ, hit next.
-Windows will display a dire warning, just say yes and allow it to reboot.
-Then back to control panel-system and see what the new Com port is.
Test it with serialwatcher.exe. Select the new com port and punch a
button on the remote. You should see some numbers go by. In general, the connect
speed should be toward the high end.

With the receiver above, I had the best luck with a speed of 38400, receiver as
an RX device.
Program the following keys:
0 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9
/ (RW)
* (Stop)
- (FF)
+ (Play)
. (Record) -that's a period
When you finally get through that, hit OK and WINLirc will be in the tray.
Finally!
Start the HD controller, press the Remote button. If it stays down, you're
connected. You can now use your VCR remote to control your HD24 from up to 10
feet away! Yeah, yeah, ok, so when they come out with the bluetooth remote,
you'll be able to do it from next door.
